The federal government has announced $66.3 million for 162 home energy retrofit and affordable housing projects across Canada, with Vancouver among the cities receiving support through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Green Municipal Fund.

The funding flows through two streams. The Community Efficiency Financing initiative supports municipalities, utilities, and local delivery organizations that provide financing for residential energy upgrades — including insulation, air sealing, heat pumps, and high-efficiency windows. The Sustainable Affordable Housing initiative supports the planning, retrofit, and development of energy-efficient and low-carbon affordable housing.

Vancouver is among the cities receiving Sustainable Affordable Housing funding, alongside Peel Region, Markham, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Winnipeg, Halifax, Fredericton, and others. The announcement also includes a project in Nunavut supporting energy-efficient and low-carbon housing solutions in northern communities.

The investment is designed to lower household energy costs, reduce emissions, and improve housing affordability — priorities that intersect directly with both Canada's climate commitments and the broader challenge of making urban housing more sustainable and resilient.
