🗞 IN OTHER NEWS

  • A new report revealed the gender pay gap in Canada’s tech sector nearly tripled between 2016 and 2021 — amounting to the average salary of a woman in the industry being about $20,000 less than her male counterpart.

  • The BC Tech Association, a not-for-profit member-funded trade association, revealed the 38 finalists across its nine Technology Impact Award categories.

  • New Ventures BC, a not-for-profit that promotes entrepreneurship through innovation, announced the round three competitors in its 24th annual competition where 10 finalists will pitch for a chance to win $250K in cash and prizes.

  • Google for Startups Accelerator opened applications for its fifth Canadian cohort where top startups will come together to tackle specific technical challenges that can help grow their business.

  • Tuktu Care, a platform that matches anyone needing home-based care with caregivers, is partnering with Care2talk, which offers telehealth and in-person access to healthcare, to make it more simple to find a family doctor.

  • Evanesce, which innovates sustainable packing solutions, is showcasing its new molded starch tech at the upcoming Canadian Climate Investor Conference in Toronto.

  • HTEC, a fuel supplier, plans to build and operate an interprovincial network of as many as 20 hydrogen refuelling stations to support the deployment of fuel-cell vehicles and advance greener transportation solutions.

  • Addy, a real estate investment platform, announced Scott McGillivray Real Estate Trust II as its newest issuer and the first fund.

  • April Hicke, co-founder of Toast, the membership-based women's collective founded to flip the hiring dynamic in favour of women in tech, was featured in the Financial Post for her thoughts on Canada’s worsening gender pay gap.

  • Maxwell Nicholson, co-founder of Blossom, the social investing app, announced the company just crossed $1 million in revenue and shared lessons learned from the journey.

  • Danny Lo, co-founder of FinCast AI, a platform that gathers insights for key SaaS metrics, opened up about his journey in landing on his company’s unique value proposition.

  • Jocelyn Courneya, marketing and communications manager at Startup Canada, the country’s leading entrepreneurship organization, created a list of resources and organizations offering support and tools to for Indigenous entrepreneurs.

  • Sumreen Rattan, COO of Moment Energy, the EV battery repurposing company, was featured in the Globe and Mail to share her insights on Canada’s aging power grid as it struggles to keep up with soaring demand.
