Automating the next era of cancer care
In oncology, radiopharmaceuticals—targeted therapeutics that deliver localized radiation directly to cancer cells—represent one of the most promising frontiers in modern medicine. However, bringing these life-saving drugs from a research lab to a patient’s bedside requires navigating a delicate and high-risk bottleneck between development and clinical-scale production.
Developing radiopharmaceuticals is a painstaking, highly manual process. Radiochemists perform delicate chemistry steps on radioactive materials. Because procedures are largely done by hand, progress is slow, difficult to replicate, and exposes specialized researchers to radiation with every procedure.
Compounding this operational friction is a systemic tooling problem: every time a novel radiopharmaceutical program matures, researchers are forced to rebuild their processes from scratch. This reset creates months of friction and costly delays at the exact moment a promising therapeutic is racing toward clinical trials.
The demand for better development infrastructure comes as the global radiopharmaceutical market hits a massive inflection point. Driven by blockbuster approvals like Novartis’s targeted radioligand therapies Pluvicto and Lutathera—which together generated nearly $3 billion in 2025 annual sales. Pluvicto was recently approved for use before chemotherapy in PSMA-positive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, nearly tripling its eligible patient population and signaling a broader shift in how clinicians are sequencing cancer treatment. Pharmaceutical giants are betting heavily on radiopharmaceuticals, with over $13B in acquisitions and licensing deals in under a year, drawn by a pipeline across an expanding range of cancer types.
Yet, while capital pours into discovering new radiopharmaceuticals, laboratory tooling has remained stuck in the past. Automated tools that replace manual chemistry remove a dangerous physical burden from researchers while accelerating the delivery of targeted cancer treatments to waiting patients.
And that’s where Radiant Fluidics enters the picture.
The plug-and-play precision platform
What they’ve done: Radiant Fluidics engineered TACU to solve radiochemistry’s early-stage scaling dilemma. Operating much like a high-precision printer, TACU runs on swappable, pre-sealed developer cartridges tailored to specific chemical reactions. Researchers simply load the cartridge, and TACU automatically executes the synthesis while logging all operational data in real time.
Unlike traditional automated systems that are rigid and designed only for locked-in, late-stage manufacturing, TACU is purpose-built for early-stage discovery—the exact phase when scientists are still refining how a drug should be made. Because the exact same machine scales directly from initial benchtop testing into full clinical production, research labs eliminate months of redundant engineering.
TACU has already achieved technical validation at world-leading independent research institutions. Demonstrating immediate commercial pull, one premier partner site placed an unprompted follow-on order for two additional units after testing their initial system.
