Unblocked raises $20M Series A to help software teams move faster

Vancouver startup builds contextual code platform to give developers the “why” behind the code.

If you were at #VTJTalks last month, you already got the scoop. Dennis Pilarinos, CEO of Unblocked and former founder of buddybuild, previewed the big news during his fireside chat with our community. Now it’s official: Unblocked has raised a USD $20 million Series A.

The round is led by B Capital, with participation from Radical Ventures and Artisanal Ventures. The funds will help Unblocked scale its contextual code intelligence platform—a tool designed to help engineering teams close the growing gap between code authors and maintainers.

As Pilarinos explained in his announcement, “AI is writing more code, teams are moving faster, and the gap between code authors and maintainers is only getting wider.” Unblocked tackles that challenge by delivering not just the “what” behind code, but the “why.”

The results speak for themselves: the Drata team (a client) reclaimed 1–2 hours per engineer per day using Unblocked, while another customer, TravelPerk, dramatically reduced new hire ramp time—from weeks to days, according to Pilarinos.

Unblocked’s platform is aimed at making development teams more efficient by surfacing relevant context from across a codebase, reducing duplicated work, and enabling better decision-making. It’s part of a broader wave of AI-augmented tools reshaping the way teams build software.

The company is based in Vancouver and led by Pilarinos, whose last startup, buddybuild, was acquired by Apple in 2018.
