In a move that has stunned Canada’s tech-education sector, Uvaro Inc. and Lighthouse Labs Inc. filed for bankruptcy on August 1, 2025—just seven months after Uvaro acquired the Vancouver-founded coding bootcamp.

An internal email to staff and contractors obtained by Vancouver Tech Journal confirmed the filing under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, with control of assets and records now in the hands of a Licensed Insolvency Trustee. All classes, mentoring sessions, and employment arrangements ceased immediately.

“Through no fault of your own, you find yourself in a creditor queue with no guaranteed outcome. That isn’t fair, and we are truly sorry,” Uvaro CEO Joseph Fung wrote.

The news was previously reported by Canadian Cyber in Context.

The collapse follows a January 15 announcement in which Uvaro positioned its purchase of Lighthouse Labs as creating “Canada’s largest and most impactful workforce development organization.” At the time, Lighthouse Labs CEO Jeremy Shaki said the deal would preserve the brand while expanding career support for students nationwide.

Founded in Vancouver in 2013, Lighthouse Labs trained more than 40,000 students in fields including cybersecurity, data science, and web development.
