Until now, companies have been feeding sensitive information such as account numbers, financial records and medical records into their AI models, despite the well-known exposure risks. It’s a clear toss-up: unlock the full value of your data to gain a competitive edge or play it safe and fall behind. 

Companies are being put in a position to choose. It’s a high-stakes catch-22. 

Vancouver-based Integrated Quantum Technologies is addressing this through its solution VEIL, which allows companies to fully leverage their most sensitive data without exposing it. VEIL ensures data is never exposed to AI model pipelines in raw form, and without any tradeoffs to performance. It works by transforming data into irreversible, secure representations, which is what goes into the model and never the raw data itself. 

The solution has been developed by Integrated Quantum’s innovation team, which is led by Equifax’s former Principal Data and AI Scientist for Digital Identity Engineering, Jeremy Samuelson. Samuelson has worked in some of the most unforgiving environments and seen the full scope of what adversaries are capable of.

What’s more is that the research behind VEIL, which is backed by Dr. Mohammad Tayebi, Assistant Professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University, highlights how VEIL not only maintains predictive utility but in some cases improves it. 

VEIL bridges the gap between safety and performance, something that has quietly become a widespread emergency. This year, companies across the globe are experiencing an estimated 2,000 cyberattacks weekly. Data scraping and high-profile data breaches have increased in volume and distillation campaigns have been deployed against some of the largest players in tech. The attack surface continues to grow while enterprise ‘armour’ has remained the same. 

At the same time, consumer concerns around privacy are placing additional pressure on organizations to rethink how they handle sensitive information.
