Vancouver companies made a strong showing at Startupfest 2025, with local biotech innovator Tydra Labs and environmental startup TreeTrack taking home major investment prizes.
Tydra Labs, which transforms seafood waste into high-value sustainable materials, won the $100,000 Women in Tech Investment Prize, funded by The Firehood. Earlier this year, Tydra also participated in UBC’s Investor Showcase, highlighting its growing profile in BC’s innovation ecosystem.
Meanwhile, TreeTrack claimed the $50,000 second-place prize in the Impact Entrepreneur Investment category, which was supported by Spring and CIVIC. TreeTrack’s technology helps monitor and protect urban forests—a timely innovation as cities grapple with climate resilience.
Other BC-connected players also figured in the awards. Spring and LOI Venture, both based in the province, contributed to funding and supporting winners in multiple categories.
In total, Startupfest awarded over $1 million in investment prizes and grants this year, celebrating startups driving change across biotech, cleantech, fintech, and more.
