Vancouver Community College is launching a series of new programs designed to prepare graduates for careers in clean energy and sustainable technologies, developed in partnership with industry to reflect current and emerging workforce needs.
The programs span renewable energy, automotive technologies, refrigeration and building systems, and electrical infrastructure. They include a Wind Turbine Technician certificate, an Automotive Logistics and Service Operations diploma focused on zero emissions vehicles, a Construction Electrician and Clean Energy diploma, an Electric Vehicle Conversion microcredential, and several others. Most programs begin from September 2026 onwards.
The timing reflects a broader shift in the labour market. Research cited by VCC suggests that by 2032, 40% of new jobs in trades, transport, and equipment will require enhanced clean energy skills as Canada moves toward a net-zero economy.
"Our new clean energy programs are designed to expand students' career opportunities and strengthen B.C.'s workforce by preparing graduates with increasingly in-demand skills," said Ian Humphreys, vice-president of administration and international development at VCC.
To support the expansion, VCC is also developing a new Centre for Clean Energy and Automotive Innovation at its Broadway Campus. The $291.3 million project is expected to be completed in 2027.
